Homemade Reclaimed Wood Dining Table Benches

When we moved out of our trailer into a home three times the size we felt the need to fill much of the emptiness with furniture. After looking at kitchen table prices we decided we could build one we liked for less than what the stores were charging.  So a few years back we built this dining table with my (extremely handy) father in law. It was made of  all reclaimed wood around his property - in fact the table top surface is the ceiling of an old smoke house.

Because there is so much opportunity for seating, I hastily stuck this white bench with some furry throws at the table.  The bench was too low, not long enough, not very nice to look at and my son kept eating all the fur off the throws ('no Cheerios for me Mom, I'll just eat my socks and this fluff!')

So how ecstatic was I when my FIL was gracious enough to build me these skookum benches for Christmas!? They are huge, comfy, beautifully made and complete the look of the table.

And then he even made a little adorable bench for Levi's first birthday.  I love the detail of the leg holes poking through the surface and can't wait for Levi to sit on it, ponder life's mysteries and think of his loving Grandpa.
